KPMG Lighthouse acquires German Data Science specialist KIANA Systems
The KPMG affiliate Lighthouse has taken over the German Data Science start-up KIANA Systems. The deal was announced in mid-January. KIANA is active in the areas of Data Mining, Big Data Analytics and Machine Learning, and is also engaged in research on these technologies. The company emerged in 2001 from the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence; KPMG had already purchased one third of the company’s shares in May 2017.
Already back in 2017, the KPMG management and KIANA agreed that the company was an asset to Lighthouse’s expertise in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The start-up also benefits as the KPMG company can scale its performance. Now the 32-member team of experts from KIANA finally joins Lighthouse.
Lighthouse is a leader in Data & Analytics, according to the Forrester report, “The Forrester Wave ™: Insights Service Providers, Q1 2017.” As a reason for the appointment, the analysts said KPMG had cracked the code for the balance between business and technology competence. The acquisition of KIANA can therefore be seen as an initiative to maintain KPMG’s own market leadership.
